Hi everyone, the intention of this post is to encourage sharing personal predictions and hopes for a future album in a safe, friendly way. I love reading the range of what kind of art would resonate with each of us. Please keep the tone supportive and open to discussion. This is a community!
Coming back here after the album title (and colors) reveal. But before we have the artwork (which I believe will drop tomorrow during New Heights). PLUS her playlist of ALL Martin and Shellback songs - I'm doubling down on my prediction: style is gonna be preppy (and sparkly, of course). Sound is gonna be happy pop. If that duo reunites for a TS album - we....are we gonna get a Pop Bible 2.0!!?!!?! HOW are we THIS fortunate?!!
Thank you for compiling all of these thoughts from the community, Sarah! Everyone is so insightful and creative and I love seeing it. My own greatest/enduring hope is for a pop-punk-rock era, but I’m not sure now will end up being the time for that. A matured Lover would be dreamy and feels more possible for the present moment. But who knows- none of us saw TTPD coming! She is indeed cryptic and Machiavellian.
What I also really really love about this post is your observation of how special the lead-up time to a new album announcement is! It’s like Christmas Eve or the Friday before summer vacation. The anticipation is as exciting as the experience. And you’ve really captured that with this post! Whatever TS12 ends up being, this is like a first page of the scrapbook 🥹
I’ve never been one to guess what fashion is going to tie into a Taylor album so I have no guesses here. It isn’t until I see it can I think about the ideas approached. In terms of lyrics, songs and themes; I would really enjoy it if for the next album to be so completely removed from love and romance and more about love platonically, about friendships (that’s such an important relationship and it only becomes more complex and simple as we get older) and beyond that about love for life in general and songs on life itself, being an adult and reflecting on your 30s while Taylor is still within her mid 30s. If it so happens there’s a song or two on romantic love that’s cherry on top but not what I’m looking for. I’d also would be really into moving far away from the pop sound as Taylor has gotten to really play in the sounds of pop for 5-6 albums now. I’m always interested if Taylor returns to country especially considering how much deeper she could go in that genres sound and having crafted her songwriting so deeply (especially thinking of debut). Others have said hearing more songs on fame and celebrity, which would be interesting. I love Clara Bow so in more of an observance song writing style would be cool. As for when it’s released I’m hoping not until years later. If it does come out this year, awesome, but if it doesn’t I’m more than okay waiting.
This is an insane answer. She is not going country, so it will be pop whether you like it not. Pop is a vast genre that can mean a lot. And she is not going to step away from writing about love especially now when she is in a happy relationship. “Love platonically” “friendships” girl bye no one is trying to hear that and it doesnt even make sense. You think she is gonna write a full album about friendship? Please be serious. Or about fame? Like you actually think there will be 10 songs about fame? She might reference things like fame, reclaiming her masters in a song or two but the rest is going to be about her life. It seems very funny to me that when she is the most happy all of a sudden you don’t want love songs. Guess what tho? You are gonna get those love songs. You are also gonna get pop music. 🤷♀️
Additionally about what you said to me about Taylor being at her happiest and not wanting love songs. I think it’s interesting you’re assuming come TS12 if that’s the album then I’m gonna be for some kind of shock and surprise. As I said in my first reply back, it’s not that I wouldn’t enjoy it or expect it in some way, I personally don’t need it to be the focus. Taylor singing about reclaiming her masters is so separate to singing about who she’s with now. The reclaiming of masters has so much to do with her own personal fulfilment, dreams of being a singer songwriter, people caring about her music, how Taylors own hand crafted songs have touched other people, and how she processes life. I could be thinking about this too deeply, but think of all the million ways Taylor could explore songwriting and sound! Think of the way different collaborations and producers, especially from different genre that’s not pop could influence a whole new sound you’d never thought she’d do. Why limit to only pop? Why limit to writing within the confines of romantic relationship? Maybe because I’m in my 30s, and there’s such a variety of artists I enjoy that touch on both romantic, love and also beyond those subjects entirely that to have Taylor do a combination of something that’s already out there from self titled -TTPD + Anthology seems a bit repetitive. And maybe just teensy bit selfish?
Girl you wrote an essay just to say a whole bunch of nothing. Taylor is gonna continue writing about her life. And the main subject is always gonna be the person she is dating. And there is nothing selfish about it? If you don’t like it, go listen to other artists. Like I said, if you think Taylor is gonna write 15 about “friendships” then you are in for a rude awakening. And I don’t have an issue with the album being a different genre, but I’m telling you what its gonna be based on the things we have learned so far and it will not be country or folk or whatever. Anyway, I don’t care for this conversation. Enjoy TS12 when it drops….if you can 🤷♀️ since its not gonna be about what you want it to be about.
I should clarify; not selfish that Taylor wants to write love songs or who she’s dating but that it’s the only thing fans want to hear. Until TS12 happens and exists in the world I guess we both can’t say for sure until that time. If you expect an album to be 15 songs of who she’s dating and her love life then why is it inconceivable that it could be 15 songs about any other subject? Including “friendships”? Because she’s written about it before so automatically Taylor is only ever going to write about who she’s dating forever? Now that seems silly. It’s obvious we very different ideas on what we would like TS12 to be, how we want it to sound, or what to expect so let’s agree to disagree.
I approached my idea of TS12 like this for many reasons; so many long term Swifties have talked about, or I’ve seen talk about how listening to The Manuscript felt like a closing of a chapter within songwriting, specifically relationships and returning to the same kinds of mistakes when it comes to love. And with how much Taylor sampled past songs of her own throughout her discography within and through TTPD + The Anthology that fans couldn’t not notice it really adds to that along with how Taylor decided to introduce?? TTPD, and how that poem sets the scene. And I’ve seen it written in an music article, and more casual fans of Taylor’s music write how it felt with TTPD Taylor treaded the same water and/or in many ways back herself into a corner. If you’re longtime fan that’s not exactly true but I can see the gist of where that’s coming from. Another reason I’m thinking about TS12 in this direction is because I’m thinking of how Taylor has said she’ll never return to making the same album twice. When 1989 first came out no one expected (even swifties like ourselves) that she would do a full pop record. She did. Then continued exploring within that genre from 1989 onwards. While yes there’s so many kinds of pop, because albums 5-11 are variety of pop, it would be interesting to see Taylor do a different sound all together. Step into a different genre all together. With Folkmore/Everlore we got to see Taylor play with narrative and song structure she hadn’t tried before and with Midnights and TTPD + Anthology we got to see Taylor play with more production, sound and style in a way she hadn’t before. I immediately think of; Clara Bow, I Hate it Here, Labyrinth, Peace, Hoax, Epiphany, This is Me Trying, Glitch, Ivy, Seven there’s more that could be added here but you get the idea. Cowboy Like Me, no one expected Taylor to write that gorgeous song and it’s such a return to a country in a way I could see her expanding on. There’s so many avenues to country beyond what Taylor already did within (mainly) self titled and Fearless. Bluegrass is one of many (top of mind at the moment), there’s just so much there to explore. Think Loretta Lynn, Allison Krauss. In terms of themes; I never said a whole album about fame I said it would be interesting if songs continued to explore fame and celebrity as others have echoed through similar lens as Clara Bow because it’s such an observant song that captures that well. Why not friendship? As I personally have learned in the last few years, and others too, friendship is equally important kind of relationship you have in your life as a romantic one. Friendship is such a different kind of relationship you learn to have throughout your life and it only becomes more complex and simple as you get older. Lessons are learned about the kinds of friends you want, you need, the way friendship is such a fluid relationship and friend breakups hurt as badly if not more than romantic ones. Friendship is no lesser a topic about love than romance is. Taylor has always talked over the years about loving love. Yes predominately that meant romantic love, but as we’ve heard with hard beautiful songs like Marjorie, The Best Day, Soon You’ll Get Better, Ronan, Safe and Sound, Tied Together With a Smile, Never Grow Up, Robin, that’s not true! It’s definitely not true of life. I think in looking at Folkmore/Everlore and how that expanded the kinds of rich stories she could sing about, Midnights conceptual idea (nights that keep you awake that you relive often for better or worse) and TTPD+Anthology in its own way, why not an album about love and life that go beyond romantic and personal romantic relationship? Why not one where Taylor tries her hand at exploring themes of life in of itself? The love we give to each other as people? I’ve seen how many fans hope to have an album that’s pop again, or a combination of Lover + Midnights, Red + Rep, etc… she’s already done that before. Why not something so so different? Why not a full albums worth instead of a few songs on the subject? Is it completely out of the realm of possibility? No. If Taylor wants to talk about her current relationship that’s awesome! I’m not saying I wouldn’t enjoy it or I wouldn’t expect it. But I also am perfectly okay if that’s not the focus. Does it need to be?
Also I don’t have a certain agenda, I was just answering the questions left that were our own thoughts on TS12. If I’m wrong and it’s none of that then that’s fine too. So far everyone’s answers, opinions and wants for TS12 is also their own personal agenda too.
Hope to see more happiness, fun and magic! I also think she must be feeling so free—freedom from the obligation of a heavy tour schedule that totally depends on her, freedom from the battle to rerecord/own her masters, and freedom from relationships that may have been dragging her down. She can go anywhere she wants, even home now.

My thoughts on TS12: I didn’t see anyone get this specific, but it would certainly make sense if she wrote a song or some lyrics about the difficulty of dating long distance. She has surprisingly few songs about this topic, but she and Travis regularly had very conflicting schedules and did a lot to make it to each others shows / games when they could. We know she loves sad songs, but she is quite happy at the moment. I could see this being a theme of a sadder song on the album. Being apart from someone you love so much is a challenge. I also think betrayal will be big because of her relationship with Blake going south. I think it will likely be difficult to tell if she’s talking about a friend or a lover, but I think there will be something related to losing a very close friend. I agree that she will discuss love and fame and reclaiming her albums.
I like this idea. And several people have mentioned the friendship, so I'm curious if more is in the open than I'm aware of. I followed the situation pretty closely and I know it was messy, but is it mostly assumptions that she and Blake have drifted apart? I'm not asking facetiously =)
I think it is pretty widely known that she hasn't been seen in public with Blake or Ryan since the lawsuit. Justin's team was even able to get access to Blake and Taylor's text history, which I imagine would be a huge hit to Taylor's privacy. I also read more specifically that what Blake texted Justin about Taylor and using Taylor as leverage due to her following / power in the industry was extremely hurtful to Taylor. She was shocked to think Blake would use her like that. Also, Travis unfriended Ryan on Instagram, so I think that was a big clue that their friendship might be permanently over.

I would happily take a full album of soft rock like ‘Guilty as Sin?’. The idea of it being a 70’s Laurel Canyon vibe (which is what the original Midnights cover pointed to) released in fall (2025) would be heaven on earth. As much as I love pop, Taylor can do it in her sleep and I’d love to see her stretch, specifically with Dessner.
I love these theories! My own contribution here is that I sincerely wonder if the album will be less happy than everyone is guessing. Certainly the part of her life that is romantic—and that is available to us—seems very joyful, but we also know about her dad having a heart attack, her complex relationship to fame, her protective nature over her own art—I suspect we’ll get a lot of emotionally turbulent songs that aren’t about love. Which fits the 1920s vibe too!! The flapper era was a time of intense upheaval, which came with freedom but also with uncertainty and confusion.
Damn it almost seems like YOU and certain other people like you don’t WANT love songs. She isnt going to write a song about her dad’s heart attack or the political landscape. Y’all really want Taylor to be sad it seems to me.

HI Sarah I have your book and you could call me the biggest swiftie in Canada I love your post thanks for giving Taylor fans info to consider

First page of the scrapbook! Oh, Chrissy. I love that so much. Thank you for taking the time to read + share.
I really loved the visual of her masters/albums as jewels.
