Loved reading this! And I feel the exact same way about the two remaining “re-recorded” albums. It’s my ideal scenario and I was so overjoyed upon reading her letter. Reputation is absolute perfection as is and I look forward to a deluxe version in the future with the vault songs, if she decides to release them.
Feeling so happy that her life dream has come to fruition. Also felt like it was the “announcement” we had all been waiting anxiously for even though not what we were expecting at all. I agree with this being probably the best outcome (atleast the most exciting, personally) for a few reasons. Like you, I was nervous about that reputation re-records. I have confidence in the reputation vault but I agree that the emotions would be hard to recapture. While we were not given a date, we got confirmation for the debut re-records and that felt like a massive win/announcement. The sound quality on the production and her voice for Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is gorgeous and I’m hoping to get a similar result with debut. Plus the announcement was like a white flag waving over the remaining albums saying we could finally listen to them again (like a double album release? 🤪).
She specifically mentioned the tour footage and I am hoping this means the opportunity to purchase her past tour films on DVD or at least watch them on streaming at some point. Also I am definitely asking for too much at this point but I would LOVE the reputation concert recording of I Did Something Bad on streaming if/when the reputation vault is released!!!!!!
I added all the original albums to my massive Taylor Swift playlist but I am specifically excited to be listening to the originals of Breathe, Forever & Always, Haunted, and Style again.
I’m definitely feeling the eras change from TS11 to TS12 in an exciting way. It always feels so gradual and then it comes all at once. She has been wearing garments with more flow and less structure compared to the traditional TTPD dress code. Seems like she’s reintroducing more florals and crystal embellishments again as well, although those are long time favorites of hers and I could definitely be stretching in my excitement. Either way it will arrive when she is ready.
Awesome post as always, Sarah! I was struck by how much Taylor shared with us in the letter- such a candid view into where she’s at with Debut and Rep TVs. It feels special that she opened up about those to us, given (as you said) that she doesn’t owe us the re-records. I selfishly hope it’s an indicator that at some point we’ll learn even more about what the re-recording process has been like for her (documentary?)… But in the meantime, I’m so excited for her to do whatever she’s feeling next, hoping this dream-come-true-moment for her will unleash a whole new flood of creativity! Can’t wait to see what she comes up with and how she decides to continue celebrating now that all of her art is home 💖
Thanks so much for reading, Chrissy! I'm so glad you brought this up re: her candidness. Such a great point. It felt like a rare peek into the process and, indeed, almost seems to crack the window a tad that more information about how these rerecords were developed (via some sort of documentary, perhaps!) is forthcoming. For instance, I'm struck now by the choice to wear the "This Is Not Taylor's Version" shirt she wore during the RED set in Vancouver which we know was filmed across those three nights.
Feeling so much the same about what this has might have unlocked for her in the coming years. The freedom to pursue whatever she desires, knowing her legacy is all hers. Excited for her and for whatever comes (whenever it comes)!
Wonderful post, Sarah! I agree, my first thought was that her debut album will most likely be released as a Taylor’s version/anniversary celebration next year. I just hope Taylor finds a good time to gift us the reputation vault (karma theory?) but I totally understand there never being a re-recorded version now.
Thank you for writing this, it was such a good retrospective! A great trip down memory lane, especially now that we have a happy ending.
As someone who still buys CDs and downloads music to my phone as opposed to using streaming, I’ve been listening to both the OG and re-recorded versions the entire time. I’m mostly just happy that Taylor gets to own her past again- not just the music, but also the videos, the photos, everything. (Off topic, I wonder if this means she might rerelease old merch?) I can’t imagine how bad it felt for her to have to give that up for the sake of her future.
As a fellow debut stan, like you, I’m so happy that debut TV is done and will eventually be released! I had the exact same thought you did about the 20th anniversary. As for the vault songs, while I’m definitely hoping for the inclusion of things like Dark Blue Tennessee and I’d Lie- and my other faves Sweet Tea and God’s Graces, Making Up For Lost Love, and Just South of Knowing Why- mostly I’m keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that the song Nashville is included. I just want to finally know what it sounds like and if the hype given by the DBT site is deserved. Also hoping the album includes a Crazier rerecord.
I’m also of course excited to eventually get a rep vault, even if I’m not as invested in it as I am for debut TV. Given how the vault songs have recontextualized their albums, I’m so curious to hear what was cut from reputation!
Begging Taylor to include I’d Lie and CRAZIERRRR on the Debut vault tracks! I’d be so happy with a re-record of Crazier, I’d never stop talking about it.
I’m listening to OG Fearless right now (the TV’s been my default since it came out) and it makes me so emotional 🥹 I also listened to debut earlier this morning. I do prefer to listen to some OG songs than the re-recorded versions (WANEGBT, Holy Ground, among others), and now I can listen to them without “feeling guilty” 👀 I REALLY want debut TV; and I’m very interested to know which “unreleased” songs will be featured as vault tracks 🩵 I’d Lie and DBT, my beloveds.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This was a great read about Taylor’s accomplishment.

When she played “Crazier” as a surprise song that definitely got my brow raised and my hopes high for this very thing! It would be amazing.

BTW I really enjoyed reading this, Sarah 😊
I so appreciate you reading! I just remembered the "WANEGBT" (TV) whees ... Ah!
