I'm not sure what I would describe my style as currently but I think my goal for style would be playful, practical and undone. I love how much organization is going on. The indyx made my heart sing. How amazing! It's like an Excel sheet for fashion greatness hehe
I took the Indyx quiz and my three words were avant-garde, minimalist and romantic. I love that they give you leading, supporting, and complementary words! Thanks for the recommendation!
When I first read the part of the sentence 3 words to describe my style - my mind immediately went like "girly?" and then I was like ... maybe not!? When I read your 3 defining words, it made me feel like maybe those are me as well and finally seeing the big word picture - I think soft and feminine could also be my words.
In the end, I think I don't really know how to describe my style but I cannot wait to conjure the energy to take everything out of the wardrobe and get organizing on Indyx (which by the way thank you for introducing us to that application!) 💗
So excited to have this conversation! I've been loving Indyx, even though I haven't finished uploading my entire wardrobe yet. I think it's really useful to recreate outfits from a Pinterest board to 1) bring your aspirational style into the real world 2) identify the things you already have that work for your ideal style and 3) identify missing pieces that would get you closer to your vision.
In addition to the Three Word system, I recommend the Style Roots system by Ellie-Jean Royden. She was inspired by Three Words, and her system builds on that philosophy by connecting various themes into Style Roots inspired by nature. She has Pinterest boards for every combination of three roots to help visualize and inspire! Identifying your top 3 roots is very similar to finding your words, but it's a bit more ~vibes~ based for those of us who feel panicked at the thought of constricting ourselves to just 3 words. And if you already have your words identified, the translation should be easy! Sarah is a very obvious Mountain Moon Mushroom girlie.
Personally, my words are Classic, Effortless, and Cool. My roots are Mushroom, Earth, and Stone. I struggle with purging my closet because I'm always hanging on to the "what if" of someone still in the exploration phase of their style. I'm hoping Indyx will help me be more realistic about what I actually use and what potential I see in things that aren't (yet) as loved.
"Sarah is a very obvious Mountain Moon Mushroom girlie" - a sentence I never thought I'd read but was delighted to have enter my brain. How fun! Thank you so much for the rec. I definitely had a few pain moments of "I know I don't wear this that often but I'm so sentimentally attached to it" when I was purging. I've allowed room for a handful of those pieces that I just can't bear to part with.
I think what I try to soften my approach is the "this love came back to me" philosophy where even if I let something go and it turns out I want it back in my life again that it makes the secondhand hunt for it more fun!
Sarah, what a fun post! Love your intentional plan and your sense of organization. May I ask where that cute leather mini and the other black mini that you're wearing in the pic next to it are from? Affiliate links would be extra amazing, but I'll take whatever you're willing to share :)
This newsletter feels like it was written directly to me 🥹 I worked far too much last year, and mostly remote. Which meant I wasn’t going out in the world as much, and feeling overwhelmed with the question of what to wear every time I did. I had a very small rotation of outfits to wear: one each for errands, in-office days, and social outings; none of which I felt confident or authentic in. It often led to me just staying home to avoid the inevitable spiral trying to find a different outfit in my closet or in stores would send me into.
My body type is what some would call “mid-size” (US 8-12), and my style ethos can be boiled down to What Would Rachel Green Wear (WWRGW). But these styles for my size have felt largely absent from offerings at my local mall and the usual retailers online since circa 2020 (although I do feel we have slowly started to move on from what I dubbed the “little house on the prairie” style that was popular during this time). I’ve spent countless hours and dollars over the past months trying to find a pair of jeans or a bra that I don’t hate, and have nothing but tears and frustration to show for it.
One of the goals I set for this year was to end this cycle, another was to stop partaking in fast fashion. The ways I want to achieve this are through purging and intentional purchasing, but I remain daunted by the “how.” Indyx seems like a great tool for cataloging my wardrobe, shopping my closet, and identifying gaps. In a digital world with access to nearly infinite retailers and subject to ads and algorithms- do you have any advice on how to find the pieces you’re looking for when they seem impossible to find?
Oh what an honour to feel like this topic found you at just the exact right time! My heart. Rachel Green is also an *excellent* source of outfit inspo - but I hear you on it being hard to find items that you want that might not necessarily be on trend. But I feel like a lot of RG classics are kicking around / trending. Mom jeans, mini skirts and (especially coloured) tights, definitely claw clips, tall boots.
I spend a lot of time searching for specific items for sure but I also like finding / following people whose style feels similar to mine and checking out their brand catalogues. Researching brands constantly also until I find one with the right "look" that I can keep turning back to for a certain aesthetic I'm after. Once you find the right brand, it helps a lot!

I hope you love the app if you end up using it! I’m excited to see where it guides my style to this year.

/incoherent nerd noises is the best
How do you recycle your clothes? some of mine just aren't wearable but I don't want them to go to landfill.

Thanks so much for asking! Just updated the post with links to everything. Hope that helps!
