When I’m feeling in a particularly spendy mood to buy clothes, one of my go-to diversionary tactics is to shop my saved Instagram folder and/or screenshot folder on my phone. I’ll often save photos of outfits that I like on other people. If I’m ever feeling tempted to shop for clothes that I may or may not need (let’s be real, it’s most likely the latter) I’ll go through this folder of inspiration and do my own version of a copy + paste with selects pulled from my own closet. I think that’s one of the greatest joys of curating a closet of go-tos, basics, and staples is that you can find endless combinations - if you’re willing to look.
Monday
What I Did: I saw this pic while scrolling one of my fave fashion accounts. I love Amy's approach to neutrals and chic office-y 'fits and lucky for me I had all these pieces in my closet. This was an office day and I’ll be honest when I headed out to clock in at my desk I paired this ensemble with a pair of black Chucks. I know my office is totally fine with open toes but I just could not do it. But when I got home I couldn’t help but slip into a pair of my black sandals - it does feel like a corporate summery blend that I’m sort of into. Maybe next time!

Tuesday
What I Did: This was a WFH day and I was not about to reinvent the wheel. I’d finished a brutal leg workout that morning and wasn’t in any mood to be creative so a striped tee and straight leg jeans (with no makeup and no hair fussing either) it was.

Wednesday
What I Did: I’ll be honest in that I’ve found the “sweater around my shoulders is yours” styling trend as of late to be sort of silly. And a little triggering to the 90s tennis polo Like what is that functionally doing for you? Don’t you find it distracting to hike back up around your shoulders constantly? But like any person dedicated to their craft, I decided to take one for the team and see what all the fuss is about. Reader, unfortunately I get it now. Sort of, anyway. I did have to get the hang of where it’s supposed to lay. At first I was styling it like a mature lady’s pashmina shawl hung around my upper arms and clasped in front of me. But then I realised no no they are supposed to actually be up over my shoulders. I have to say given the weather as of late which is giving false fall vibes wherein it’s a little too chilly to go sleeveless and a little too muggy/humid to wear sweaters - this was actually the perfect balance? I felt like I had a little more weight around me for warmth but it didn’t feel too heavy and suffocating. Plus the opportunities now to use it as a little textural / colour layering opp? I may just be a convert. I think I need a few more tries to experiment with it to get it right but I’m pleased with this first attempt. In terms of materials, this was also another example of false fall where it felt good to have a sweater, a tee, and some breezy linen pants as a way to balance the weird temps. Should it get weirder and muggier/cooler I might take this combo into next week with an actual sweater worn on with the linen pants. I like the textural juxtaposition of materials!

Thursday
What I Did: Another office day where it was cloudier, chillier, and more aggressively AC-ier than normal so I’m glad I opted for a heavier lady jacket with some lighter trousers. I definitely could have gone for Chucks like in my inspo photo and maybe on another day would have (I like the 1:2 ratio of casual to polished pieces in an outfit for just the right blend on an office day) but I felt like going even more crisp and together this day.

Friday
What I Did: This was a casual Friday to work from home but I felt a lil ~fancy~ and had this inspo image sitting in my phone and felt like going for it. I did attempt it with the black sandals from Mondays look but felt the ballet flats were more ‘me’ and ballerina-esque with the skirt. I’m not entirely sold on the combination (maybe the white is too harsh with the champagne tone of the skirt?) - but I’m glad I gave it a go. Maybe next time I’ll commit to the sandals!
What I Wore: Tee | Skirt | Flats
A note that I’ll be away on vacation next week so no new posts from me (ahem it’s my one year wedding anniversary to my ~*~husband~*~. Thank you so much for supporting this space and my work and also for always supporting my humanity and right to take a breather. Even though I just KNOW I’ll be sitting in a camping chair next week without cell service feeling guilty and I’ll be hard on myself and struggle to detach from the need to measure my existence by my productivity. But we persist! We try! Oof.
