It’s possible I’ve been a bit ‘place order’ happy. But the added joy? Getting to share those tidbits with you guys. I also owe you an ‘Everything I Wore This Week’ recap post with recent ‘fits.
In the meantime, some recent buys!
Candles: I’ve recently taken to journaling and one of the daily prompts is: “What Would Make Today Great?”. And when I tell you the number of times I’ve written down, “Lighting a candle and relaxing on the couch” I fear you’d leave and never come back because of how dull and boring I am. So when Hotel Lobby Candle (a brand I’ve heard much about but haven’t tried yet) said they were having their annual 20% off sitewide sale, I pounced. I tend to like woodsy/musky/smoky scents but I also can’t resist anything coconut. So I picked up Aspen (which reads like a winter cabin scent) and Island (a tropical getaway profile). I guess mentally I’m either lost to the Pacific Northwest woods or I’m on a beach (plus or minus someone’s hand on my butt). I’m currently on the waiting list for their Hamptons candle which has such intriguing notes for summer (tomato! basil! mint!).
Converse: I’ve loved the resurgence of these over the last few years and wear my black ones a lot. After a lot of Poshmark browsing I managed to snag a white pair for $40! The best part is I had a Poshmark balance from selling other things in my closet so they were “free”. I believe that’s what we’re calling ‘girl math’.
Stripe Shirt: One thing I can always be convinced of? A classic stripe. I spotted this red/cream tee on a friend and pounced immediately. The red colourway is gone (I’m so glad I acted fast) but the black/white version is still in stock and is perfect. The weight of the fabric is shockingly good! It’s a boxy shape but I love the slit up the side which makes a millennial front tuck easy. A perfect ‘fit for today (Canada Day) don’t you think?
Linen Essentials: Even though Vancouver is stubbornly holding on to rainclouds, I just know a humid and muggy 35C/95F series of days is ahead of us and when that time comes I want to be ready to wear clothing that knows it has no business touching my body and trapping sweat. I took the leap on this cutie tie strap linen mini shift and will let you know how it is!
Summer Lips: At a friend’s insistence, I caved and picked up a new shade of Ultralip from Glossier. As part of their limited summer capsule, they put out two new shades in their nourishing, shinier, glossy lipstick formula: Deco, a “rich, burnt orange”; and Apricot, a “warm creamsicle.” I went for the former (and picked up some Boy Brows while I was at it).
Summer Workouts: This one is not actually a personal buy but a GIFT! From the very lovely Cassey Ho. Aka Blogilates. Aka founder of Popflex. Aka the athletic brand Taylor wore recently and you all sold out within hours. After I posted Taylor wearing her ‘Pirouette Skirt’, Cassey asked if she could send over some things and of course I said yes. Now, my current workout split has me in the gym 4x/week and doing a separate cardio session 4x/week. Plus a daily step goal. So when I tell you my weekly laundry load is almost exclusively sports bras and leggings, believe me. I told Cassey I’m a neutrals kind of girl but I can never say no to gree(eeeeeee)n and I’d also love workout shorts for the season. In response? She sent over a few pieces she picked out that she thought I’d like. How sweet is that? In addition to being so nice, she’s also bang on when it comes to guessing a girl’s preferences. These shorts are so good. They don’t ride up and don’t cut in. And?! They’re a magical shade of green (literally, this colour was aptly named!). What a dream. I typically wear them on cardio days with the matching bra. Oh and the best oversized hoodie for evening walks and a ‘pump cover’ walking to/from the car in the gym parking lot. This shade of green feels particularly TSS-y don’t you think?
And a very happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians! My plans for the day include a family picnic (my contribution is potato salad - specifically this one) and a long walk.
Anyone else have long weekend / summer plans?
